Intensive Care in Neurology and Neurosurgery: Pathophysiological Basis for the Management of Acute Cerebral Injury
Neuromonitoring is a tool of the trade in intensive care, and should incorporate cutting-edge technology with patience, repeated clinical observation, and careful identification of neuroworsening. The aim of the book is to be of practical use, and to assist the clinical practice of the busy physician. The clinical examination is the introductory section of the book, and an abundance of technology, with specific emphasis on the importance of intracranial pressure, follows. Since the patient with an injured brain can survive only if other organs and systems (such as the lungs, the acid-base equilibrium, etc.) are preserved, a section of the book covers the interactions between the affected brain and other organs. The intracranial pressure measurement starts (or unfortunately ends) with a well-maintained catheter, which becomes vital when the drainage of hydrocephalus is involved. Dealing with patients with severe brain damage has plenty of ethical implications, up to and including the problems related to brain death and organ donation.

Handbook of ICU EEG Monitoring
The emerging technology of continuous EEG monitoring in intensive care units gives practitioners the ability to identify malignant EEG patterns quickly and provide more effective care. Handbook of ICU EEG Monitoring encompasses the wide range of technical and clinical issues involved in the successful monitoring of critically ill patients to detect significant changes in cerebral function and prevent serious neuronal injury. Divided into five sections, the handbook covers EEG acquisition and other technical considerations, clinical indications, EEG interpretation, appropriate treatment, and practical and administrative concerns.
The book addresses the often overlooked subjects of billing, coding, and generating reports to facilitate communication across the entire ICU team. Written by leading experts in this rapidly evolving field, the chapters are brief and formatted for maximum utility with bulleted text, pearls, and take-home points to reinforce key information. High-quality examples of routine and quantitative EEG findings help users hone their interpretive understanding and build skills for detecting clinically significant EEG changes in the ICU.
Handbook of ICU EEG Monitoring Features:
Broad but practical reference covering all aspects of ICU EEG monitoring
Thorough discussion of the indications for ICU EEG monitoring and prevalence of seizures in patient subgroups
Focus on the challenges of EEG interpretation that are unique to EEG monitoring in the ICU
Pearls and take-home points highlighted in every chapter
Includes hard-to-find information on technical aspects, indications, billing and coding, and other administrative and procedural concerns
Handbook of ICU EEG Monitoring is the first practical but comprehensive resource dedicated to the art and science of EEG monitoring in the ICU. Neurologists, neurointensivists, neurosurgeons, nursing staff, EEG technologists, and anyone caring for critically patients will find pertinent and pivotal information to inform their practice.

Cerebral Monitoring in the OR and ICU
This comprehensive volume will serve as a complete guide to the clinical application of computer assisted systems in monitoring central nervous functions both in the OR and ICU. It presents practical guidelines and therapeutic indications for computerized EEG and Somatosensory Evoked Potential (SSEP) monitoring for the experienced user as well as the novice, leading the newcomer step-by-step to a level of advanced monitoring. Basic procedures and data handling are explained in a user-friendly and practical way.
The book also describes what cerebral monitoring can do and what its limitations are. In addition, proper selection of the available monitoring devices, set-up procedures, the technique of electrode placement, trouble shooting and data interpretation are fully covered. Various typical cases underline how EEG power spectra and evoked potential changes are interpreted, how they are used in the light of other variables being measured how they can serve to get a deeper insight into the underlying clinical situation. In this respect representative and color illustrated examples further emphasize the link between this book and clinical practice.

The NeuroICU Book
The first practical, protocol-based guide to the emerging field of neurocritical care
The goal of neurological critical care is to rapidly deliver acute medical therapies and appropriate interventions through effective monitoring of both neurological and end organ function. The NeuroICU Book puts that goal within the reach of every neurologist and critical care specialist.
Combining the latest clinical perspectives in critical care medicine, neurology, and neurosurgery, this comprehensive, evidence-based text standardizes neurocritical care and takes you through the rationale for those standards. Filled with detailed case studies and featuring a question-and-answer format, the book not only builds competency in recognizing acute changes in neurological function, but also addresses all organ insufficiencies and failures, reflecting the real-life challenges in the modern neuro-ICU.

Infections in the Adult Intensive Care Unit
The book will provide some basic aspects of the pathophysiology of infection, but essentially the book will be practical-based and use case-illustrations to highlight key aspects of diagnosis, management and prevention. Through a combination of text, tables, figures/line drawings, clinical illustrations and other illustrations, it is hoped to provide a comprehensive, interesting and stimulating approach to this important subject. Guidance on the appropriate use of laboratory investigations, as well as radiology, together with templates to use for deciding on the optimal choice of anti-infective agents will be amongst the strengths of this book.

Handbook of ICU Therapy

Handbook of ICU Therapy aims to provide rapid access to important information about the treatment of the critically ill patient and will fill the gap between the `list' type manuals and large textbooks or specialist monographs. It comprises a series of `cutting edge' reviews of the most advanced treatment concepts available in the modern ITU. Whilst assuming a basic knowledge of underlying conditions, it nonetheless outlines key physiological principles where necessary, and critically reviews the current literature and practice. The heart of the book is aimed at providing the key practical information on treatment techniques to the busy clinician in an easily accessible format. In addition to conventional drug therapy, ventilator, fluid and physical therapies are also discussed in detail. All of the authors are directly involved in ICU research and practice and represent the new generation of intensivists.
